Midnight provides the light to peer within the most treasured mind
Skin upon skin, she will contain you
No longer search for that which is before your eyes
Your soul has found its resting place

Why fear that which is instinctively yours
There is no purer essence than that of the rivers below
Seek the Lights of this Earth for they will guide your way
The abyss will never be understood for it is meant to be a mystery

Stop trying to solve the riddle of She and embrace the ever-present Dawn

For with the removal of each veil, the mystery is revealed

skin coloured like the soil from which we came
rich shades of the nubian enshroud her form
hair dark as the night of the hidden moon
with eyes like that of doves
a king spoke of her in song

bathing in pools of wild honey
be caught within her gaze
surrender to the charms of this hennaed maiden
regret not the attraction rooted deep within your mind
fighting will only delay that which is to pass

rise up and see how comely is she
her soul is fire
her tongue, a bridled mare
her mind is broad as the desert
her love, a voluminous sea

she is the image of her ancestors
the vision of life examined
within the passage of time, one delights in revelation
finding storehouses of inspiration

years pass
the reflection changes slightly
but she will always be

sold into slavery
born into indentured servitude
you’d think we’d have learned
freed ourselves from these chains
longing to feel the breeze on our skin
without the sting from a fresh whip wound

strange fruit, we became
picked at the harvest time of death
chased and drowned for the simple act of sayin, “Ma’am you shole is pretty…”
yet, we still haven’t learned
to love ourselves for who we are
to love us for us and not for the contractually twisted thoughts of this society that we helped build

we haven’t learned a thing
we’re still being sold
by our own hands
we are our own slave masters, brokers, and pimps
trickin’ for rent or a note on things that don’t bring us joy
it’s all for show to keep up with the Jones’
but the Jones’, they don’t care about frontin’
sellin’ ourselves at the expense of intellectual stimulation
don’t you realize the mind lasts longer than the body?

some of the greatest stories never told
are the cheapest bodies ever sold
sold to the highest bidder
but they don’t care about you
they only want what you showin’
your body for a night without any returns
substituting wisdom for one night of pleasure
will they be there in the morning?

and you wonder why some of us choose to be single
the forgotten
the overlooked
we didn’t sign society’s contract
and through the pain, we found our joy
loving ourselves for us

so go right ahead and keep sellin’
if that’s what you want
quick
fast
easy
unlocked but still chained
you have a name
there is a higher place to be
elevated within your mind
enriching the life you see

there is no key to find
for the key is you
unlocked or broken
these chains can be smelted
formed into the jewelry of kings and queens
don’t want to give up on you because the truth is right before your eyes

trust, everything isn’t always as it seems

refine

resign

Thinking back to a time
When love was pure
A heart was beautifully refined
The world was bright
And every direction provided inspiration and might

Sudden
Quick
Dark clouds appeared
A vengeful refrain
The trees vanished
Sanctuaries retreated to the depths of remorse
Escape became the only course
Yet, even this was short lived
For soon, a different kind of storm materialized

An emotional fight
Flesh and bone was desired
Yet, heart and mind were the sacrifices required
Presented at the altar like a lamb to be slain
A voice in the wind whispered a sorrowful chain
And then time stopped
Everything became clear
The decision to pass away was detained
Reanimation and vigor was regained

Changes brought forth the progeny of pain
Time
Reason
An expired season
Celibacy of soul and mind became a strength undeterred
This path is hard
The road will be long
Yet the fulfillment of self will keep her sane

Learn from the rain
It always rejoices
Bringing life to a land within
The Sun seeks its horizon
But water always finds its level
